Foliar and bark treatments are timed to the life cycles of specific pests and diseases in our region. We offer multiple insect and disease applications from early spring through fall, so plants are protected when they’re most vulnerable.

Maine Tree and Shrub Pests to Watch

• Browntail moth. An invasive caterpillar whose toxic hairs cause a poison ivy–like rash and breathing problems. It feeds on oak, apple, cherry, shadbush, beach plum and rugosa rose. The Maine Forest Service says populations are heaviest in midcoast Maine and the capital region, and recommends licensed applicators for treatment — most effective before late May.
• Aphids, scale and mites on ornamental shrubs
• Leaf diseases on crabapples, lilacs and other ornamentals in wet springs
• Winter injury — burn on evergreens like arborvitae, yews and rhododendrons from wind, sun and salt
